The current Information Commissioner, Elizabeth Denham, was due to leave her post earlier this year, as I have been telling my clients for some time. Quite a few people have been asking me if there is any news of a new appointment so I thought it worthwhile to post an update.
A statement on the ICO's website reads, "Following a request from the Secretary of State for DCMS, Elizabeth Denham has agreed to extend her term as Information Commissioner to 31st October 2021, while the recruitment process for her successor is completed." As yet, there has been no news of who the new incumbent of the post will be. Only time will tell whether the person appointed will have similar views to Elizabeth Denham or will be taking or Information Governance strategies in a different direction.
